Three of the hottest musical performers calling San Diego home will join forces for a show at The Holding Company on April 26. On hand will be Americana-tinged rockers Daring Greatly (above), folk-inspired troubadour Jessie Ray Smith, and classic country singer Kimmi Bitter, all three making major inroads on the national touring circuit. It’s a terrific bill from start to finish, with each artist’s set full of songs so good they may become standards for future generations of musicians. Tunes such as Kimmi Bitter’s “My Grass Is Blue” and Daring Greatly’s “Trouble,” are superb in their recorded versions but live they are taken to a new level.

Reggae icons, The Wailers, stop in at The Sound on April 25. Established in 1981, the band’s lineup has shifted over the decades, with numerous famed musicians spending time in their lineup. Led today by Aston Barrett Jr., the seven-piece band continues to be instrumental at keeping reggae in the spotlight. Perennially on the road, they have long since become festival favorites. Currently touring behind their latest album, “Evolution,” fans of island sounds won’t want to miss this visit from one of the most respected groups of the early days of reggae.

SURF BIRDZ
Anyone looking for a fun cover band will want to check out the Surf Birdz, who perform at Aquarius Bar & Grille on April 25. As might be expected from their name, the band excel at playing 1960s era surf classics, from “Pipeline” to “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” but they also thrown in plenty of other 1960s classics. Unusually, the Surf Birdz feature flute, giving their takes of songs by the likes of Jethro Tull and Canned Heat extra authenticity. An excellent party band/live juke box, catching a set from the Surf Birdz is a great way to start the weekend.

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE
The music of The Beatles will be in the spotlight on April 27 at the Baker Baum Concert Hall, performed in new jazz arrangements by an all-star group of musicians. Taking part in the matinee concert will be Peter Sprague (guitar), Rebecca Jade (vocals), Beth Ross Buckley (flute), Tripp Sprague (saxophone), Mackenzie Leighton (bass), Danny Green (piano), and Duncan Moore (drums), with a set list sure to include such standards as “Here Comes The Sun,” “Day Tripper,” and “All You Need Is Love.” Both jazz and Beatles fans will love these recast versions of Fab Four favorites, with Sprague’s virtuoso guitar playing sure to be one of the afternoon’s highlights.

UB40
British hitmakers UB40 take the stage at Humphrey’s Concert’s by the Bay on April 27. Best known for a long string of chart-topping cover versions, UB40 remains one of the biggest selling reggae groups of all time, with numerous classics to their credit, including such favorites as “Red, Red Wine,” “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You,” and “I Got You Babe.” Formed in 1978, the band includes original lead singer Ali Campbell, and is touring a crowd-pleasing greatest hits set sure to have even the most casual fan singing along.

ATHENAEUM
Acclaimed violinist Yale Strom performs at the Athenaeum on April 28, as part of the venues free lunchtime concerts held each Monday at noon. Strom is a renowned klezmer musician and historian, instrumental in helping keep this music alive, both through his solo performances and with is band, Hot Pstromi. Strom is a gift to the community at large even beyond his musical contributions. A noted author and photographer, he has also directed nine documentaries to date, most recently, “Recordially Yours: Lou Curtiss,” about the late owner of Folk Arts Records. Anyone who enjoys klezmer music won’t want to miss this appearance from one of the world’s foremost artists in the genre.
