Liam Gallagher's son said he didn’t understand ‘the scale’ of how big Oasis were until the band split in 2009.
Lennon Gallagher, whose mother is actress Patsy Kensit, said that he began to realise the significance of the band and what they meant to music fans as he grew up.
The 25-year-old model, who has sported brands including Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger and Saint Laurent, recently spoke about his childhood to British Vogue, telling the publication about how he and his half-brother Gene, who is the lead singer of indie band Villanelle, would often be dressed up by his dad.
Lennon told the outlet: “I looked f****** sick when dad dressed Gene and me in mini-mod parkas for school. I used to try and steal his clothes, but I always had more luck with mum’s.”
Liam and Noel, who started out with their debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994, split up 16 years ago following a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in France. It was only last August that the pair announced they would be performing again together when they announced a string of reunion shows for this summer.
“I don’t think I understood the scale of it all until the band split,” Lennon recalled of what it was like being brought up as a Gallagher. “People would all of a sudden come up to me in the playground and be like, ‘Oh, my God, have you heard about this?’ I just remember thinking, ‘Oh, ****… they were massive’.”
Oasis' reunion shows will kick off with two performances at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. They will then perform four epic shows at Heaton Park before heading to Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin’s Croke Park throughout July, August and September.
After tickets for the UK and Ireland shows went on sale last year, there was outrage as some standard tickets appeared to have jumped from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK’s competition watchdog to pledge that they would look at the use of dynamic pricing.
The band is also travelling to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America and a movie, which is set to be produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is being made in conjunction with the reunion tour.
Oasis, who signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, soared to fame after they released their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994.
They had hits with songs including Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, Supersonic and Live Forever. But fans have shared their upset at discovering there will be at least one fan favourite that's not set to make it to the reunion tour set list.
Noel quit the rock group in August 2009 saying he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.
The full British Vogue feature with Lennon Gallagher will be available via digital download and on newsstands from May 20.
