Exclusive: Curve, Leicester, has announced the performers leading their new production of The Sound of Music.
With music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical follows Maria, a novice nun sent to care for the von Trapp children. Famed numbers include “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi” and “Edelweiss”.
Now directed by Nikolai Foster, the Made at Curve production will mark the 60th anniversary of the 1965 film adaptation.
Returning to Curve for another festive stint are Molly Lynch and David Seadon-Young, who will take on the roles of Maria and Captain Georg von Trapp, respectively. Last year, the duo played Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins in the theatre’s My Fair Lady.
Curve’s chief executive, Chris Stafford, and director Foster said that the duo “created pure theatrical magic when they breathed new life into My Fair Lady at Curve last year.” They added: “These were virtuosic performances, filled with beauty, courage and originality, that none of us who had the privilege of seeing, will ever forget.”
Before concluding: “It’s an honour to see these magnificent, once in a generation talents returning to Leicester, where they promise to give everything to these magnificent characters and this important landmark of musical theatre.”
Also revealed today are members of the creative team, including musical supervisor and orchestrations adapter George Dyer, choreographer Ebony Molina, set and costume designer Michael Taylor, lighting designer Mark Henderson, sound designer Nick Lodge, props supervisor Ryan O’Connor, associate director Ollie Khurshid, and casting director Olivia Laydon for Jill Green Casting.
The production will be accompanied by engagement activities, including an education pack, school workshops, and a Theatre Day on 4 December.
The revival will run from 22 November 2025 to 11 January 2026, with a range of accessible performances available, including British Sign Language interpreted, captioned, dementia-friendly, audio-described, and relaxed performances.
Further cast and creative team are to be announced.
