Two barbershop quartets and three or more church choirs will provide a free musical ensemble on Saturday open to the public.
The Jamestown Harmony Express will host their annual Jubilee concert on Saturday, April 26, at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 509 Prendergast Ave.
The Harmony Express has existed for more than three generations and has had a lasting impact on the area’s music scene.
“The organization has been around for 39-plus years,” said Dan Scapelitte, a retired history teacher, college professor, and barbershop quartet member. “This particular concert we’ve performed for 30 years is a gospel and sacred music concert.”
While the concert is open to a variety of music types and styles and other choirs, there is one unifying requirement.
“The only absolute requirement we have is that the music is of a faith-based nature,” said Scapelitte.
Concert officials state that all funds raised will support the United Christian Advocacy Networks (UCAN) City Mission. UCAN City Mission, 7 W. First St, is a men’s only emergency homeless shelter that supports and uplifts the downtrodden.
“This is wonderful, thank you, Lord,” said UCAN Executive Director Bruce Baehr. “I’m touched that the Harmony Express is thinking of us and supporting our mission.”
Scapelitte said anyone wanting to join a barbershop quartet or wanting to perform at this event should contact him at dgscap@yahoo.com.
