Jazz, folk and classical: Winchendon Music Festival’s eclectic mix – The Gardner News

The Winchendon Music Festival will host a series of concerts this spring and fall. According to a community announcement, the festival has showcased local, national and international artists since 2016, featuring various genres including classical, folk, jazz and world music.
The Arpeggione Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. on May 31 at the Murdock-Whitney House, located at 151 Front St. The ensemble will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20. The performers include Thomas Carroll on clarinet, Elisabeth Axtell on horn, Sally Merriman on bassoon, Rebecca Nelson on violin, Anna Griffis on viola, Cullen O’Neil on cello, and Andrew Arceci on bass.
Multi-instrumentalist Arceci has an extensive performance background across North America, Europe and Asia, with recording credits from various music labels and institutions. He was a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies during the 2019-2020 academic year.
John Arcaro & Band will take the stage at 7 p.m. on June 2 at the same venue. Arcaro, a professor at Berklee College of Music, will present a program featuring works from the “Great American Songbook” alongside contemporary jazz pieces.
At 7 p.m. on June 3, Duo Sorolla, consisting of Ismar Gomes on cello and Wan-Chi Su on piano, will perform at the Murdock-Whitney House. Their concert will include works by composers such as Reynaldo Hahn and Astor Piazzolla.
The festival will continue with a double bill featuring Chris Moyse and the folk collective Floyds Row at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at The Flower Shop, located at 172 Central St. Moyse is a singer-songwriter, while Floyds Row explores connections among various musical genres, with arrangements by a diverse group of musicians.
The Worcester Jazz Orchestra will perform at 2 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the Winchendon Amphitheater, located at 86 Ingleside Drive. The big band will play popular works by Glenn Miller and Buddy Rich, among others.
