The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra is celebrating 20 years of music.
The orchestra has been operating for two decades now and conductor, Sabatino Vacca, said it’s been a great run.
“Pardon the pun, it’s music to my years,” said Vacca while on The Mike Farwell Show on Tuesday.
He said they offer broad programming to help keep the orchestra modern and attract a wide-range of audiences.
As for future musicians and spectators, Vacca thinks music education in schools is key for inspiring the next generation of music and arts lovers in Waterloo Region.
“There’s such a heavy emphasis on sports, not to take away from sports, but the arts play as critical a role in our day-to-day lives and our love of life that music contributes to,” Vacca said.
The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra will take the stage this weekend for the Youthful Exuberance peformance, which will feature some musicians from Wilfrid Laurier University.
“They hold an annual concerto competition for their students. The top 3 winners of this year’s competition will be peforming with us,” explained Vacca. “It’s so great to give these youngsters an opportunity to perform with an orchestra, often for the very first time.”
Youthful Exuberance will also feature the Cambridge Youth Orchestra. Vacca said it proves there’s a still an array of enthusiastic musicians in our community, hoping to make a career of music.
It’s happening Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Cambridge. Tickets are available by clicking here.
