Lorde, 28, has officially kicked off a new era, and it’s already got fans buzzing!
The singer took to Instagram to drop the bombshell announcement of her fourth studio album, Virgin, accompanied by a jaw-dropping album cover that’s impossible to ignore.
The cover is literally an X-ray image potentially of Lorde, showing her pelvic area, complete with visible hip bones, a belt buckle, and a zipper.
But the detail stealing the spotlight is a small T-shaped object in the X-ray—seemingly an IUD (intrauterine device).

The bold visual has sparked endless conversation online, with fans dubbing her “CONTRACEPTIVE QUEEN” and praising her for embracing such a raw, personal symbol. One fan even joked, “She must be a very cautious virgin using a contraceptive IUD.”
On her official website, Lorde revealed the album was written “100% in blood” and is set to drop on June 27.
She described Virgin as a reflection of her femininity—raw, primal, innocent, elegant, spiritual, and even a bit masculine.
She also teased fans with a personal email, confessing, “I’m proud and scared of this album. There’s nowhere to hide. I believe turning the deepest parts of ourselves into music is what sets us free.”
The buzz doesn’t stop there. Lorde has already started making waves by previewing her new track, “What Was That,” during an impromptu performance at Washington Square Park. The crowd was so massive that police were called and shut it down but not before Lorde returned hours later to perform for the die-hards who stayed behind.
My new music video What Was That. As little between us as possible. Aliveness over prowess. Naïveté over disenchantment. I LOVE YOU WE START HERE 𝑳ĿŁု⑷♶
Fans are ecstatic, with some already declaring Virgin the “ALBUM OF THE YEAR” before its release. While Northern Hemisphere fans are already christening their upcoming summer as “LORDE SUMERRRRR,” cementing the excitement surrounding her return.
With production credits including Lorde herself, Jim-E Stack, Dev Hynes, Daniel Nigro, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, and Buddy Ross, the album promises to deliver something extraordinary.
Bold, vulnerable, and unapologetically unique, Lorde’s new era has already taken off and the world is eagerly watching. June 27 can’t come soon enough!
It has been over 35 years since the 80’s concluded. No, I didn’t need to open this story like that…
