The Indiana University (IU) Jacobs School of Music has welcomed Jasmine Choi as professor of practice in flute. Choi has held masterclasses worldwide and been invited to teach by The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, and the Universität für Musik in Vienna, among other schools.
With her teaching methods published by the Theodore Presser Company and Seoul Music Publishing, Choi also runs her own YouTube channel for classical music, which has garnered more than 30 million views.
Previously, she served as associate principal flute with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and as principal flute with the Vienna Symphony. She was also artist-in-residence of the New York Classical Players for three seasons and of the Sejong Arts Center for its 40th anniversary year.
Among her performance opportunities have also included performing the song Arirang, commissioned by the Austrian Olympic Committee, which was featured during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Additionally, Choi is the founder and music director of the Heredium Concert Series and has been designated “ambassador” of the Daejeon Culture and Arts Foundation.
“One of the most celebrated flutists of our time, Jasmine Choi is known for her exceptional skill and imagination,” said Dean Abra Bush. “We are absolutely delighted that she will be sharing her gifts with our students as a member of our faculty.”
“Jasmine Choi is an international figure in the flute world known for her impeccable virtuosity, charisma and special ability to communicate through her music with audiences of every kind,” added Otis Murphy, chair of the Woodwinds Department. “I am thrilled that our students in the Jacobs School will experience an artist such as Jasmine as their teacher and mentor, and we all welcome her with great excitement!”
“It is with great pleasure and tremendous excitement that I share with you that I will be joining the prestigious faculty at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as a professor starting this fall!” Choi posted on Facebook. “Totally look forward to working with the next generation musicians at IU and cannot wait to explore the endless wonders in music together!! Spots in my studio are extremely limited due to my concert schedule and living in Austria, but you all know I don’t do anything half-hearted. Now you can apply to study with me by sending your inquiry to the admission’s office at [email protected] and they will help you prepare the rest of your audition process.”
