Icelandic Artists Nominated for Nordic Council Music Prize 2025 – Iceland Review

Icelandic musicians Emilíana Torrini and Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson have been nominated for the 2025 Nordic Council Music Prize. Both artists have previously received nominations for the prestigious award.
As reported by mbl.is, the Nordic Council Music Prize was established in 1965 and honours musical creativity and performance that holds high artistic merit.
“This year’s nominations reflect the best that Nordic music has to offer today and demonstrate both the breadth and quality of the Nordic music scene,” organisers said in a statement.
Emilíana Torrini is an acclaimed Icelandic singer-songwriter known for her ethereal voice and blending of folk and electronic music. Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson, on the other hand, is a renowned Icelandic pianist celebrated for his expressive interpretations of classical and contemporary compositions.
The full list of nominees for the Nordic Council Music Prize 2025 includes:
Denmark: Annisette Koppel, Ying-Hsueh Chen
Finland: Elina Vähälä, Pekko Käppi
Faroe Islands: Brimheim
Iceland: Emilíana Torrini, Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson
Norway: Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Wilde Frang Bjerke
Sweden: The Dog of the Sea, Sofia Jernberg
Åland Islands: Sophie Asplund
The winner will be announced on 21 October during the Nordic Council’s annual session in Stockholm. The recipient will receive the Northern Lights statue and a prize of 300,000 Danish kroner—equivalent to around 5.8 million Icelandic krónur.
