Hudson River Music Festival Unites Grahame Lesh & Friends, Jorma Kaukonen, Lucius, Steve Earle, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and More for Inaugural Lineup – Relix

Hudson River Music Festival has unveiled the full artist lineup for its debut presentation. Staging at Croton-on-Hudson’s scenic riverfront Croton Point Park on Saturday, June 14, the new festival from Riverfest FPS (For Pete’s Sake), Dayglo Presents and the Harper House Music Foundation continues the legacy Toshi and Pete Seeger’s folk picnics with an all-star cast of acts coming together for a community-focused celebration of music and activism.
The Hudson River Music Festival’s first event unites a staggering lineup from the worlds of jam, folk, jazz, alt-rock, country and more. The bill is led by the Grahame Lesh & Friends supergroup, featuring Rick Mitarotonda, Oteil Burbridge, Rob Barraco and Jennifer Hartswick, all of whom took part in March’s Unbroken Chain tribute to Phil Lesh at the Capitol Theatre; they’re joined by Dawes’ Griffin and Taylor Goldsmith, who will also guest in a set from longtime collaborators Lucius.
The legendary blues-rock guitarist Jorma Kaukonen will perform independently, as will rising folk-rock torchbearer Madison Cunningham. New Orleans’ storied Preservation Hall Jazz Band will add its signature brand of high-spirited traditional innovation to the mix, and the iconic country singer-songwriter and activist Steve Earle will round out the program with support from a yet-unrevealed team of Friends.
“We are super honored to be continuing the magic that was created at Croton Point Park for many years,” Dayglo Presents founder Peter Shapiro reflected. “Given the upheaval in the world, it feels good to have such a solid piece of history return again. We are going to do our very best to do something new and fresh, while also respecting the roots of how this new festival came to be.”
In the spirit of the Seegers’ celebrated ‘60s gatherings, which brought some of the region’s greatest folk talents to the bank of the Hudson to raise funds for the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, the Hudson River Music Festival will promote environmental justice through a zero-waste commitment and educational initiatives. Offstage, the event will offer engaging attractions like Earthball, an activist area, the Circle of Song, family-friendly presentations from the Arm of the Sea Puppet Show and The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a boat flotilla and Pete & Toshi’s Grove, which will honor the memory of the festival’s inspirations through a peaceful and empowering reprieve.
“We started with a vision to bring back a beloved festival to Croton Point Park,” Riverfront FPS’ cofounders Mitzi Elkes, Hal Cohen and Roy Volpe expressed. “Pete Seeger taught us about the power of music to connect people, learn about the environment, and commit to work together for a sustainable planet – as important today as it was fifty years ago.”
Tickets for the first-annual Hudson River Music Festival will become available this Friday, April 25. For more information, visit hudsonrivermusicfestival.com.
