Half a Century, Full Circle: Special Consensus Launches Been All Around This World Single – World Music Central

Special Consensus, the multiple IBMA Award-winning bluegrass band, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a new album titled Been All Around This World, due out June 6. The title track, released as the lead single, features a reunion of past and present band members in a celebratory nod to the group’s enduring legacy.
The single includes former members Robbie Fulks, Josh Williams, and Ashby Frank alongside current lineup Greg Cahill (banjo), Greg Blake (guitar, vocals), Brian McCarty (mandolin, vocals), and Dan Eubanks (bass, vocals). Produced by Alison Brown, the arrangement highlights the group’s signature harmonies with dynamic key changes and alternating vocal leads.

Greg Cahill says: “It was such a joy to be back in the studio with the band and a cast of former band members to make this recording. Dan, Greg, Brian and I so appreciated Robbie Fulks, Josh Williams and Ashby Frank for joining us on “Been All Around This World”! They were each in the band at different times over the past decades, so bringing them together at the same time with us was indeed very “special.” The song also felt very appropriate for us since 2025 is the 50th anniversary of Special C as a professional touring and recording band.”

Founded in 1975 in Chicago by banjoist Greg Cahill, Special Consensus has built a reputation for bridging traditional and progressive bluegrass. Over five decades, they’ve released critically acclaimed albums and helped shape the genre’s evolution while staying true to its roots.
