Gavin and Stacey star makes huge career announcement with music legends – Daily Express

Gavin and Stacey cast in a BBC publicity imageGavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, who plays Uncle Bryn in the beloved BBC show, has announced a very special collaboration with music legends Sparks. The 59-year-old, who is a self-professed fan of the band, will host a special event in London with brothers Ron and Russell Mael who comprise the band, to mark the release of their 28th album entitled Mad!
“I still have the cassette of Propaganda, a present on my ninth birthday. Since then Sparks have held a very special place in my heart. They are the epitome of creativity and musicality. I am so looking forward to meeting them and having a MAD! discussion,“ he gushed announcing the news. Propaganda was the band’s fourth album released in 1974. The American stars appear equally as excited to meet national treasure Rob saying: “As we’ve never had the honor of meeting British Royalty, we are extremely excited to be in discussion with Rob Brydon, MBE and, incidentally, one of the funniest people alive.”

Sparks have had a long relationship with the UK and they briefly lived in London in the 1970s. They admit to being Anglophiles and they first found success in the UK and Europe with their 1974 glam rock anthem This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us, before they broke through in their native country.
They have had numerous hits worldwide including 1979s No.1 In Heaven, 1980s When I’m With You, 1994’s When Do I Get To Sing My Way and 2021’s Oscar nominated So May We Start from their musical movie Annette.
In 2021 award winning English director Edgar Wright told the story of their five decade career in the documentary The Sparks Brothers, which featured contributions from many of the bands they have influenced including Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes and John Taylor and Andy Bell and Vince Clarke from Erasure.

A third gushed: „This is without a doubt going to be absolutely incredible!“
Meanwhile a fourth excitedly penned: „Corr blimey and crikey O.M.G.!! I do hope it is streamed or posted to the YouTube thingy after the fact.“
