A powerful evening of storytelling, music, and cultural dialogue is set to take place on Thursday, June 5, as Aurora Town Square hosts a special screening of the documentary Walking Through the Fire. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes a post-screening Q&A with the filmmakers and featured artists.
Directed by Juno-nominated musician and composer Chris McKhool, Walking Through the Fire brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists from across Canada in a collaborative project that explores themes of reconciliation, resilience, and unity. At its heart is the belief that music — as a shared language — has the power to bridge divides and foster deeper understanding.
The film pairs stunning performance footage with personal stories, capturing the creative process and relationships that developed as artists came together across cultures and lived experiences.
Following the screening, audiences will have the opportunity to engage directly with McKhool and acclaimed Indigenous singer, writer, and educator Shannon Thunderbird in a talk-back session. The conversation will offer insight into the making of the film and the broader social and cultural themes it seeks to address.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at aurora.ca/WhatsOn.
