The first half of the second day for the fisrt rehearsals of Eurovision Song Contest 2025 was completed by San Marino‘s first rehearsal, including the famous Italian DJ, Gabry Ponte and the song “Tutta l’Italia“. Of course the most interesting part of this specific song is its journey, since it was not written by Ponte in order to represent San Marino in this year’s Contest, but to be the official theme song for the Sanremo Music Festival of 2025 instead, as it happened eventually. However, after its instant popularity and its position in number 15 on the Italian singles charts, it was given the opportunity to represent San Marino, through San Marino Song Contest, so here we are talking about one of the catchiest songs of this year.
The song combines electronic and dance beats with elements of Italian song and tradition, such as the accordion, tarantella, and references to Italian pop culture, and it is also scheduled to be performed on the 13th of May, during the First Semifinal.
So Gabry is no stranger to an audience of millions and a big stage, and he’s 100% owning this one. The focus, as we saw at Una Voce Per San Marino, is mainly on Gabry himself in a silver jacket, against a backdrop of pulsing lights and graffiti on the LED wall. Gabry’s decks are huge and look like they’re made from mirrored panels that reflect even more pulsing lights, but the dancers we saw at Una Voce Per San Marino are gone, replaced by two instrumentalists who play the accordion and the tambourine.
This is such an interesting and unusual staging concept for Eurovision – a performance where the masked vocalists are not the main focus. The only other example we can think of is Norway’s Nocturne in 1995, where the fiddler was the main focus rather than the singer – add any other suggestions in the comments!
Either way, this feels like a rousing football chant of a song, and it’s easy to imagine the crowd being caught up in the infectious energy of it next week. Part of the lyrics translate as “Let us dance with a glass in our hands/Then tomorrow we’ll regret saying I love you.” Very much feels like a night at Euroclub.
PYRO update! flame jets and fireworks, with added smoke jets in the final chorus and a firework finish. The pyro store is now EMPTY.
Gabriele “Gabry” Ponte is an Italian musician, DJ and producer and he is probably the most famous artist in this year’s Eurovision Song Contst, since the public first met him as a member of the legendary Eurodance band, Eiffel 65 and their song “Blue (Da Ba Dee)“, which topped the worldwide charts and sold over 8 million coppies, back in 1998.
Ponte has also worked with various global artists and produced a number of successful songs, including “Geordie” sung by Stefania Piovesan, “Time To Rock” and “La Danza delle Streghe”. Moreover, Ponte has also worked with Pitbull and Sophia del Carmen, realising his single “Beat on My Drum” in 2012, while he has also produced the international hit “Tacata” by Tacabro.
Since 2021, he has also gained even more popularity through the singles “Thunder” and “We Could Be Together” of LUM!X, while he has also co-written and produced Austria’s 2022 Eurovision entry, “Halo”, performed by Pia Maria and LUM!X again.
Photos from today’s rehearsal will be added as soon as they are made available.
San Marino’s second rehearsal is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, with further details expected on their final staging.
