Get ready for a weekend packed with flavor, festivities, and live performances as downtown Calhoun comes alive for the much-anticipated BBQ and Boogie Festival, happening Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26.
Now in its 13th year, the beloved community tradition—organized by the Calhoun Downtown Development Authority and the Gordon County Convention and Visitors Bureau—returns with a fresh look and a slightly new name, having dropped “blues” to reflect its more diverse musical lineup.
This year’s event introduces some exciting changes, including a revamped schedule and new locations for various activities. Kicking things off Friday evening, attendees can enjoy a free concert from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring Rickey Cole and Nashville Nation, along with a variety of food trucks to keep everyone fueled up for the fun.
“Friday is all about music and food,” said Lacey Fuquea, Director of Calhoun’s Downtown Development/Main Street Program and Historic Preservation. Unlike previous years when vendors were set up on both days, this year the vendor booths will open only on Saturday, running from noon to 8 p.m.—and it’s set to be the biggest turnout yet.
Saturday promises a full day of entertainment with a lineup of live bands performing back-to-back throughout the afternoon and evening. The music stage will also have a new home, moving one block west to Court Street near the railroad crossing. Adding a sporty twist, part of the street will feature temporary pickleball courts where festivalgoers can play while enjoying the music.
A longtime highlight of the festival has been its national barbecue competition. Though previously closed to the public, this year, professional pitmasters will be on-site as food vendors, giving everyone a chance to sample their award-winning barbecue.
Families with young children can look forward to an expanded Kid Zone filled with fun attractions like rock climbing walls, obstacle courses, and a petting zoo.
With more music, food, activities, and vendors than ever before, this year’s BBQ and Boogie Festival is shaping up to be the biggest and most exciting yet.
