Dolly Parton was overcome by emotion as she opened up about her late husband during a TV interview.
The 79-year-old music icon was a guest on the NBC News morning show Today on Friday when conversation turned to her recent loss.
Parton was married to businessman Dean from 1966 until his death last month at the age of 82 – with his passing leaving the I Will Always Love You singer heartbroken.
The country music star was on the morning show to mark the 40th anniversary of her Dollywood theme park when host Savannah Guthrie asked her how she was doing since the loss of her husband.
Becoming tearful, Parton said, „Oh, you know what, I get very emotional when people bring it up. But we were together 60 years.
„I’ve loved him since I was 18 years old. It’s a big adjustment, just trying to change patterns and habits. I’ll do fine, and I’m very involved in my work, and that’s been the best thing that could happen to me.“
She added, „I’ll always miss him, of course, and always love him. He was a great partner to me.“
Parton and Dean famously fell for each other at first sight upon a chance meeting at a laundromat in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1964.
Reflecting on they moment they met during an interview in 2016, Carl said, per Entertainment Tonight, „My first thought was I’m gonna marry that girl.
„My second thought was, Lord she’s good lookin‘. And that was the day my life began. I wouldn’t trade the last 50 years for nothing on this earth.“
