Seminal industrial hip-hop group Death Grips have denied reports that they have split up.
Nothing is ever as it seems with Death Grips, a group who have subterfuge and confusion written into their DNA. Relatively quiet since their last album ‘Year of the Snitch’ in 2018, the band’s most recent show was Austin City Limits in 2023.
A series of leaked messages from the group’s Andy Morin seemed to confirm that lyricist MC Ride “doesn’t want to do any more” – a signal that Death Grips were over.
Andy Morin was careful to caveat this at the time, adding “none of us can ever predict what will happen with the group”.
As it happens, Death Grips aren’t quite done yet. Members Stefan Burnett (MC Ride) and Zach Hill issued a statement confirming their ongoing activity as a band, stating: “We remain active as Death Grips…”
Is new music on the way? Who can tell.
