Canadian technical death metal legends Cryptopsy have just dropped their latest single “Malicious Needs”, along with a fierce new music video directed by Gornoss. The track offers a second taste of the band’s upcoming album, “An Insatiable Violence”, which is set for release on June 20th via Season of Mist.

“An Insatiable Violence” marks the band’s ninth studio album and continues the band’s relentless evolution across a career that spans over three decades. This time, the band dives deep into the darker side of modern society and social media, exploring themes of technology, addiction, and self-destruction.
The album includes tracks like “The Nimis Adoration”, inspired by a grotesque mukbang video gone way off the rails, and the groove-laden “Until There’s Nothing Left”, built around bassist Olivier Pinard’s commanding performance.

Vocalist Matt McGachy reveals that the lyrics tackle both the influence of social media and reflections on the band’s own legacy. Songs like “Dead Eyes Replete” serve as a cautionary tale about the cost of fame and online attention, while “Embrace the Nihility” features a guest appearance from one of Cryptopsy’s former vocalists, adding another layer to the album’s already complex sonic landscape.
Drummer Flo Mounier, known for his technical mastery in extreme metal, injects the record with fresh rhythmic ideas that keep the material razor-sharp. The album closes with the punishing “Malicious Needs”, a slow-burning juggernaut that builds into a chaotic climax — a fitting finale for an album that doesn’t hold back.
