Randy Travis has released another single with the help of artificial intelligence despite losing his singing voice more than a decade ago.
The country music icon dropped his latest song “Horses In Heaven” on Friday, Jan. 31. This is the second song that Travis has released by using A.I.
"I thank God for the special team of folks who helped me jump back in the saddle to bring this vision to life, and you’ll be hearing much more about them soon," Travis wrote in an Instagram post Friday. “In the meantime, just know that my desire to share new music with you is still burning, and I’m excited to celebrate this moment together. Thank you for singing along all of these years.”
Travis, a Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, lost his ability to sing after experiencing a stroke in July 2013. The musician was given a 1% chance of survival, according to a post on Travis' Instagram Monday.
“There is no gift greater than more life, and Randy is grateful to celebrate new music with family, friends, and fans,” the post reads.
Travis' team first utilized A.I. to release his single “Where That Came From” last May. The track was made by producer Kyle Lehning and Warner Music pulling 42 of Travis’ tracks, stripping away the music and leaving just the vocals.
The team then got a “surrogate,” voice in the form of country music singer James DuPre, CBS News reported at the time. The A.I. program takes Travis’ voice and overlays DuPre’s singing.
“Eleven years ago I never thought I would be able to have a hand in music production of any kind, but by God’s grace and the support of family, friends, fellow artists, and fans, I’m able to create the music I so dearly love,” Travis wrote in an Instagram post on May 3, 2024. “Many thanks to my wonderful team and the best fans in the world for putting me back in the saddle again! I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.”
Travis is currently on his “More Life Tour.” The tour began Jan. 10 and will end on May 11.
