THERE’S a chance to hear classical music in an ecclesiastical setting next month.
Bovey Paradiso in partnership with Villages In Action is proud to bring the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to Bovey Tracey at the beginning of May.
The BSO Strings ensemble will be in concert at St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas’ Church in the town on the evening of May 1 with an exciting selection of music for everyone.
The event is part of the BSO’s On Your Doorstep concert series that bring specially designed mid-scale chamber ensembles to venues and audiences across the south west. with engaging programmes for families, new audiences and seasoned concert-goers alike.
Working with rural touring partners, they travel to venues across the south and south west, from village halls to community spaces in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Hampshire with an entertaining blend of music ranging from classical treats to more up-to-date favourites.
The concert will be presented by the twelve musicians as they unravel the invisible strings entwining twentieth and twenty-first century music and a colourful programme will explore music from the likes of Karl Jenkins, Jessie Montgomery and Gershwin – to name but three featured composers.
Rapidly changing musical colours, exploding gestures and fleeting melodies create a wondrous soundscape of a Jessie Montgomey’s Starburst before the lofty melodies of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Novelletten drifts back down to earth.
The sonic possibilities of string instruments are explored with the players presenting a colourful programme that also features Karl Jenkins’ beloved Palladio, Holst’s charmingly bubbly and joyful St Paul’s Suite and an ethereal Lullaby from Gershwin.
Tickets for the 7.30pm concert on May 1 can be booked via the website https://www.paradiso.org.uk/Bournemouth-Symphony-Orchestra/Events.
