American singer Chris Brown has been freed on bail after he was charged over an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub two years ago.
The 36-year-old rapper, a former partner of Rihanna, was arrested at Salford's five star Lowry Hotel at 2am last Thursday. He had flown into the UK to play 10 dates as part of his Breezy Bowl XX European tour.
Greater Manchester Police officers arrested Brown on behalf of the Metropolitan Police, following an alleged assault in London more than two years ago.
He was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, in connection with an incident at a venue in Hannover Square on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
The Grammy Award-winner was remanded in custody after appearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday morning (May 16).
At a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday (21 May), Brown was released on bail.
The American musician, 36, can continue with his scheduled international tour this year, including in the UK in June and July, as part of his bail conditions, Judge Tony Baumgartner told the court.
Brown must pay a £5 million security fee to the court, which is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if they breach bail conditions.
The Go Crazy singer is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Abraham Diaw in February 2023.
He did not appear in court for the bail application hearing.
The rapper announced his tour in March. The musician, known for hits including Under The Influence, and Yeah 3x, unveiled a 31-date tour called the Breezy Bowl XX Tour, stopping off at stadiums and arenas across Europe, the UK and the United States between June and September.
The tour will include two shows at Manchester’s Co-op Live on June 15 and 16. He has also since announced a third Manchester date on June 24.
The tour, which kicks off in Amsterdam on June 8, will also include dates in Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Dublin and Glasgow in June and July. Chris, 35, will also be joined by a host of special guests for the shows.
American singer and rapper Bryson Tiller, who is known for songs including Don't and Whatever She Wants, will support on all tour dates, including the UK shows.
Summer Walker will also join Chris on the North American shows, which begin in Miami on July 30 and end in Las Vegas on September 20.
Chris Brown has previously said the tour will mark twenty years of his career, and will build on the momentum of his 2024 11:11 Tour, which saw the musician perform shows in North America, Brazil and South Africa.
