PANAMA CITY — Locals can’t seem to get enough of concerts this summer. From big names to local bands, Bay County is slated for a season full of jams.
Not enough? Our local public transit system is putting live-acts on the move.
Bayway runs the bus system and some other public options for getting around in Bay County. The agency is leveraging this to bring musical acts across the city. A release from the transit agency says it’s taking over restaurants, parks and other community hubs over the summer with live performances.
The first act will be local musician J. Cruz, who plays country tunes on his acoustic guitar. He’s set to play live on board Bayway Route Five from 11 a.m. to noon on May 16. This route runs between Gulf Coast State College and the mall, two of the larger transfer points for the bus system.
This will come at no additional cost for riders.
“Public transit plays a vital role in building community,” said Lamar Hobbs, Bayway transit programs administrator. “With Music on the Move, we’re bringing energy and creativity directly to our riders while also supporting local talent. We’re excited to enhance our current riders‘ experience and encourage more people to learn where Bayway can take them.”
More acts will be announced as summer continues, with the agency encouraging readers and riders to follow its social media to hear about who, where and when the next acts will be.
Readers can check out bus routes, schedules and the new on-demand services on the Bayway website.
