Big Fear return with new single ‘Mildew’.
The emerging three-piece blend indie rock tropes with unexpected moments of lucid pop energy, adding a dash of lyrical honesty for good value. Live, Big Fear are a powerful – lead by asexual non-binary front person Alice Edwards, the group aim to do things different.
Tipped by Radio X (X-Posure) and BBC Radio 6 Music (Emily Pilbeam), the band’s debut EP ‘Career Day’ lands this summer, alongside a high-profile spot at Truck Festival.
New single ‘Mildew’ leads the way, a snappy indie rock confection that dares to be different. A helter skelter rush of ideas, it’s held together by quicksilver production from Charlie Andrew (alt-J, Wolf Alice, David Gilmour), pivoting between their live music and studio exactness.
A terrific piece of songwriting, the lyrics for ‘Mildew’ actually tackle anxiety, using Alice’s experiences as a framework. They comment…
‘Mildew’ is very much a dialogue between oneself and anxiety, with the view to explore how anxiety is a very limiting cage to one’s actions and behaviours, but the call is coming from inside the house – mental illness convinces you that your thoughts and behaviours are rational.
Tune in now.
