A new tool from Apple will make it easier to import your playlists and library from Spotify to Apple Music. As part of a limited rollout, the company currently offers this feature in Australia and New Zealand.
Apple joined forces with SongShift, a popular playlist transfer tool, to bring this feature to life.
In February 2024, signs of Apple working on a Spotify import tool for Apple Music first popped up online. Since then, there has been no word from the company about this tool. Moving your playlists across music streaming services is a big headache. With no official tool, most users use SongShift, a popular third-party tool for music transfer.
Apple aims to make it easier for Spotify users to switch to Apple Music. To do that, it’s teaming up with SongShift and offering native music library transfers from Spotify. According to MacRumors, the tool appears to be in testing or under a limited rollout, with availability currently restricted to Australia and New Zealand.
With the tool, Apple Music users can import their music library from other services right from the app on their phone or through the web. Apple may expand the tool’s availability to more countries in the coming weeks. Or it could announce it as part of iOS 19 at WWDC25 next month.
Apple’s support page contains detailed instructions on how to use the tool and what to do if you get a “Some Music Needs Review” message. The latter warning will come when some songs from Spotify are not available on Apple Music. Also, note that the tool will only allow transferring user-created playlists. Curated playlists from Spotify or other services are not migrated.
The option to import playlists from Spotify and other services will make the switch to Apple Music easier for potential users.
Apple also offers a tool to export your Apple Music playlists to YouTube Music. This will come in handy if you are looking to move away from the company’s music streaming service.
