President Donald Trump sat for an interview with The Atlantic last week, during which he boldly claimed “I run the country and the world.”
The president last week wrote via Truth Social he accepted the interview “out of curiosity” and “as a competition with myself.” That post came after Trump and other members of his administration cast intense scrutiny on the publication’s reporting that the Department of Defense had inadvertently sent its editor Jeffrey Goldberg sensitive military plans via Signal.
“The first time, I had two things to do run the country and survive; I had all these crooked guys,” Trump said in the interview. “And the second time, I run the country and the world.”
Trump during the interview also touched on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth who has become embroiled in controversy following the Signal chat leaks. He acknowledged the two “had a talk, a positive talk” and added “he’s gonna get it together.”
The Atlantic also asked Trump about his continued persistence of running for a third term in office despite being limited by the Constitution to just two.
“That would be a big shattering, wouldn’t it?” Trump said of such a notion. “Well, maybe I’m just trying to shatter.”
The article release comes ahead of with Trump’s 100th day in office, which he has claimed as the most successful 100 days of any presidency. Time magazine wrote in a profile of Trump’s first 100 days, however, they are “among the most destabilizing in American history.”
