Green Acres celebrates 65 years in Lethbridge – Lethbridge News Now

One of the region’s first providers of seniors’ housing has reached a major milestone.
The Green Acres Foundation has been operating in Lethbridge for 65 years, opening its first facility in 1960.
CEO Dawna Coslovi says, “This is such an extraordinary event for us. We’re so proud of the fact that, for the last 65 years, we’ve been able to help seniors in this area.”
She says Green Acres not only provides homes for about 1,000 seniors in Lethbridge, Barons, Coaldale and Picture Butte, but a sense of community.
“The world is changing now. The family nucleus might not always have their kids right here and things like this. We’re really proud of the fact that we can offer affordable housing with the services that people need, but they also become part of a community,” says Coslovi.
She looked back at the COVID-19 pandemic and says the seniors in their care got to spend a lot more time socializing with their friends, family and fellow residents than many who lived on their own.
Being able to provide programs and services is a point of pride for Coslovi.
“We have activity coordinators and rec therapists that their sole job is to make sure they have programs in place for the spiritual, physical and mental stimulation for all of our residents and I think that’s really important,” she explains. “They also here, at this lodge too, they get to have the meals so they get to have that social interaction instead of sitting in front of the TV for supper – they get someone else they can talk to every day.”
Green Acres is continuing to expand in Lethbridge as Coslovi says they have been purchasing land in the Crossings neighbourhood on the west side. She has been working with an architect and hopes to have construction started by late fall 2025 or spring 2026.
