This year’s Eurovision Song Contest was a breath of fresh air — a much-needed return to its core values: music, creativity, and celebration. The European Broadcasting Union deserves full credit for the thoughtful and decisive implementation of new rules that safeguarded the apolitical nature of the event and re-established the contest as a joyful, unifying musical experience.
At the heart of this positive shift was the leadership of the new ESC Directon, Martin Green. With clarity, vision, and firm direction, he introduced a framework that helped everyone involved (artists, delegations, and accredited press) understand the expectations and boundaries from the outset. These were not restrictions for the sake of control, but well-defined guidelines that fostered respect, order, and, above all, a focus on the music.
The contrast with last year’s atmosphere could not have been more striking. Gone were the disruptive behaviors and politicized gestures that had begun to overshadow the essence of the contest in recent editions. In their place was a respectful, peaceful environment where the music took center stage. Activist displays were absent, and the non-political character of the event was firmly upheld — a decision that protected the celebratory tone and allowed performances to shine without external distractions.
This is exactly what Eurovision fans across Europe and around the world want: a contest that brings people together through art, not one that divides them through controversy. A stage for creativity and diversity of sound, not a platform for political statements.
This year’s Eurovision reminded us all why the contest has endured for so many decades. It was once again a festival of music, performance, and cultural exchange — exactly what it was always meant to be. For that, the EBU and Martin Green deserve sincere congratulations. Their efforts have set a new standard, one that can guide the contest into a more focused, respectful, and harmonious future.
