SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – With summer quickly approaching, MGM Springfield is set to kick off their Free Music Friday series for the season.
“It’s just about making that experience really great for people who are coming downtown and want to have that full, downtown experience,” said MGM Springfield spokesperson Beth Ward.
It’s Friday night and, for the next 16 weeks, that means only one thing at MGM Springfield: Free Music Fridays. “We put on concerts all throughout the summer for people to come for free to just come, hang out outside, have a great night, listen to a fabulous band,” Ward added.
It’s a tradition that draws thousands to the City of Homes every season, starting Friday, May 23, with The Eagles Experience and, while attendees ‘Take It Easy,’ Ward told Western Mass News that these concerts benefit more than just your ears. “This is a few thousand people who come for these concerts, which is great not only for MGM Springfield, but it’s great for all of our local bars and restaurants,” she explained. “It really is a boost for the downtown community that we love to be a part of.”
That’s a boost, Ward said, will be felt, whether or not Mother Nature cooperates. “We work closely with Western Mass News and Dan Brown and the meteorologists to look at the weather and then we have to make the determination, at one point or another, can we have it outside,” she added. “It looks like if we have to, we will be able to have it indoors, so the show will go on.”
Whether you’ve been to one Friday or 100, Ward claims coordinators work hard to make sure there’s something on the schedule everyone can look forward to and, given the free admission, an event you can ‘Check Out Any Time You Like.’ “Every year, we try to sprinkle in some new bands, some new blood,” she said. “It really is a lot of fun and that’s what we really need these days, is to just forget about everything. Come down, it’s free, did I mention it’s free? And have a great time and listen to some great music.”
