Jessica Winter has shared her new single ‘Wannabe’.
The London figure’s long-awaited debut LP – the aptly titled ‘My First Album’ – lands this summer, with Jessica Winter intending the release to act as a document of her creative breadth.
Out on July 11th, the record is accompanied by a string of in-stores, while Jessica Winter heads up a special bill at Shoreditch club XOYO on June 6th as part of SXSW London.
New single ‘Wannabe’ is out now, and it melts together 90s alt tropes with her 2k25 perspectives. A deliciously dark piece of pop music, it recalls everyone from seminal Garbage album ‘Version 2.0’ through to the cinema of Tim Burton.
Here’s a thing: directed by Roger Spy, Jessica’s role in her ‘Wannabe’ video echoes Edward Scissorhands – the climax echoes the film’s ending, but with a surprising twist.
She comments…
“I wrote this song after a lengthy doom scroll. Got bored of feeling less than and the daily comparison.  This song is a friendly reminder to stay in your own lane and to remember you are just as alien as everybody else.”
Tune in now.
